Uploading Your PDF
To search the wiring rules, you need to upload your own licensed copy of the AS/NZS 3000 standard.
- Open the Search tab and tap the upload area.
- Select your PDF copy of
AS/NZS 3000:2018from your device. - The app automatically indexes all clauses using TF-IDF (term frequency–inverse document frequency) for accurate search results.
- Once indexed, you can immediately begin searching.
🔒 Session-Based Storage
Your PDF is stored in a personal session namespace on the server. It is never shared with other users or accessible outside your session.
Sessions are secured with 30-day tokens. Your uploaded PDF persists between uses so you don't need to re-upload daily. Your indexed data is preserved within the session.
Searching Clauses
The search engine lets you find clauses using natural language queries — no need to memorise clause numbers.
How to Search
Type your query into the search bar on the Search tab. For example:
RCD protection for socket outletscable installation in thermal insulationswitchboard clearances
Search Results
Each result displays:
- Clause ID — the official clause number (e.g.,
2.5.3.2) - Title — descriptive heading of the clause
- Page Range — start and end pages in the PDF (auto-corrected to match the printed page numbers in the standard)
- Relevance Score — how closely the clause matches your query
- Excerpt — a short text extract (maximum 500 characters)
- Metadata Badges — colour-coded tags that classify each result:
- Mandatory — the clause uses mandatory language (shall, must)
- Informative — the clause is advisory or informational
- Table — the result is a table entry from the standard
- Has Exceptions — the clause contains exception or exemption conditions
Tap any result to open the clause in the secure PDF viewer.
Filter Chips
Use the filter chips above the search results to narrow your results by type:
Selecting a filter instantly shows only results matching that category. The All chip shows every result without filtering.
Page Number Auto-Correction
ClauseMate automatically detects the offset between the PDF's internal page numbers and the printed page numbers in the standard. Displayed page numbers always match the numbers printed in the AS/NZS 3000 document, so you can cross-reference results with your physical copy.
Direct Clause Lookup
You can also type a clause number directly (e.g., 2.5.3) to jump straight to that clause.
Suggested prompts appear when no search is active, giving you quick access to common queries like "What circuit breaker for 20 lights?" or "Do I need an RCD in a bathroom?"
Bookmarks & Job Notes

Tips & Troubleshooting
Try rephrasing your query using different wording. Also confirm your PDF was successfully indexed — check the clause count in Settings.
Calculators work offline once the app is loaded and don't require a PDF. If data pack values seem wrong, check your uploaded CSV packs in the Data Packs tab.
Quick Reference works completely without any PDF upload. If it's not loading, try refreshing the app or checking your internet connection for the initial load.
Go to Settings and tap "Clear Session". This removes the current PDF and lets you upload a new one.
For the most accurate indexing, use a high-quality scan of the official AS/NZS 3000:2018. Low-resolution scans may result in poor text extraction.
Pro tip: Use the suggested prompts on the Search tab for common questions. They're designed to return the most relevant clauses for everyday electrical work.
